I Choose You

The average adult makes 35,000 decisions a day. If you’re a teacher like me, then you make 36,500 decisions a day. Talk about decision fatigue! Sometimes the choices we make, even the smallest ones, can have the greatest impact. There was one decision, however, that made a phenomenal mark in history. The greatest decision ever made was not when the 13 colonies bravely chose to separate from Great Britain to become what is now the United States of America. The greatest decision ever known was not in the development of a life-changing technology or invention. Not your choice in the person you wanted to marry, not the final decision to purchase your home, or even what school you wanted your children to attend compares. Besides the life-transforming decision to accept Jesus Christ into your life, the greatest decision known to man was not made by man. The most remarkable decision ever made and the finest gift ever given was when God chose you.

When we accept Him as our Lord Savior, we often believe that we chose God over an empty and meaningless life. This is 100% true! In addition to that, though, God’s desire is to reveal His love in this: He chose you first. He chose you before time ticked. He chose you before light expelled the darkness. He chose you before one creature walked the earth. He chose you before you were ever meant to be. You were always a part of God’s plan. The Word is consistent in this truth. Here are 6 examples in the bible that prove it:

Psalm 139:13-16

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Jeremiah 1:5

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart…”

John 15:16

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”

1 Peter 2:9

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

Isaiah 43:1-2

“But now, this is what the Lord says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

Ephesians 1:4-5

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.”

He takes such pleasure in calling you a daughter or son. Thank God for His adoption plan! For without it, we would be forever orphaned and hopelessly lost. Be encouraged in knowing that God chose you! Accept and find your worth in that, my friend.
